So You Think You Have a Ghost By Rob Conover An excerpt from Rob's guide, Dealing With Ghosts: So you think you have a ghost! Scared? Excited? Concerned? Allow me to offer you some assurance: you might be right. The first thing you must do is determine if you actually have a ghost, then you can determine what course of action you want to take in dealing with it. This guide will be helpful in both steps. Just by reading this guide you’ve made the first decision in resolving a matter that may have brought you sleepless nights. By accepting the possibility your home is inhabited by spirits, you are empowering yourself to deal with it and be a part of the spirit’s transition to the world it should inhabit. The most important thing to remember through this process is simple: a spirit was once a person too! This person, for whatever reason, didn’t cross into the light upon death. If you have a ghost, I’ll be calling on you to believe in yourself and empower yourself to help that spirit through the light. It’s a wonderful feeling to help someone with the most spiritual transition there is. And who knows, when it’s your time to cross over you may very well meet the spirit again. I have the ability to see and speak to spirits, but I don’t believe you need this ability to help a spirit and bring peace to your home. I am going to share with you the things I do that anybody can do to help a spirit. Not only do I find great satisfaction in sending wayward spirits on to their reward, I find even greater satisfaction in the faces of those who have been made a part of this experience. I talk to people every day who have been met with such skepticism that they don’t want anyone to know what they are going through because they feel they will be ridiculed. I cannot count the number of times I’ve talked to people who say they are relieved to discuss their problem with someone who actually believes them. Well, I’m not worried about being ridiculed and you shouldn’t be either. I also talk to people every day who laugh at the subject of ghosts and claim to be skeptics, but these skeptics have just as many ghost stories as the people they try to ridicule. I know there are those who choose to be skeptics and will remain skeptics. I think that’s a good thing. How boring would the world be if we all believed in the same things? Also, skeptics tend to be better witnesses because they focus on the facts of an event instead of the emotions they felt during it. On the other end of the spectrum are the people who are so certain they have a ghost and actually want to have one so bad that they disregard critical facts and focus on the evidence that draws them to the conclusions they want. Skepticism is actually a tool we will use to help determine if you have a ghost. I was once a skeptic myself. My first paranormal investigation was actually an attempt to prove there was no such thing as ghosts. Instead, I found my whole outlook on many things changed and I started to become a believer. Now, after having come face to face with many spirits over the past 16 years, I am truly a believer in ghosts. But that’s not to say that the skeptic in me is completely gone. Now, let’s determine if a spirit is really haunting your house. This isn’t always easy. Possible ghostly experiences Noises In your attempt to determine if you have a ghostly guest, you must check every rational explanation first. Although most people do not jump to the conclusion that they’ve got a ghost, it is easy to misinterpret occurrences that defy easy explanation. Remember the old horror movies where the ghosts wore sheets and rattled chains? Well, in all my years of investigations, no one has ever heard chains rattling. What they’ve heard are footsteps, muffled voices, heavy breathing, and an assortment of noises that we normally associate with the living. Noises are the most misinterpreted events and one of the easiest to investigate if done thoroughly and in earnest. The first thing to rule out as a cause would be the obvious: living, breathing people in the area. |
