New Jersey Sightings

I've been getting more UFO sighting reports than usual lately.

Earlier this month I received a particularly interesting report from a soldier currently stationed at a military base in New Jersey. Because of his job, I can't reveal the witness' identity. This person works the night shift and takes breaks at around 3 AM each night. On August 26, 2010 the witness was napping in his car on the base during his break when he was awakened by an "incredibly bright light" shining directly into his eyes. The light was so bright, it woke him out of a sound sleep.

He wrote, "I opened my eyes and there was what looked like a giant halogen bulb shining directly at me from the sky, and I could see from the outside of the center of the light this green tint which was lighting up the clouds around it. It was about as bright as if someone was shining a halogen bulb from a car's light directly at me. I stared at this light shocked and confused for about 3-5 seconds at most until it basically looked as if it had been shut off by a switch. All of the light which had been illuminating the clouds was sucked into the central point very quickly and the light was gone."

The witness was concerned that he may have inadvertently witnessed some kind of military technology and did not report the sighting to anybody except for one close friend who also works at the same base. He did try to ascertain if there had been any flare testings or surveillance technology research underway at that time but found nothing. The witness was convinced that the light was not a flare or test of any kind for a number of reasons. The light was directly in the projected path of aircraft and appeared to have originated from the sky, rather than from a building or device on the ground.

The next night, August 27, the same friend who the witness told about the sighting was sitting in the cockpit of an aircraft on the flight line while working with a staff sergeant. The friend was looking into the sky when he noticed a really bright green light which seemed to shoot a bright light directly in his eyes. He described it as being so bright he had to "squint to look at it." The light disappeared suddenly. Shocked, the friend reported the incident to the sergeant who told him not to tell anyone else unless he wanted to be "thrown in the loony bin." The friend then went out and started working with the sergeant on the outside of the aircraft when he looked up at the sky and saw something slowly hovering directly over them, but he couldn't make out a shape or anything because it didn't have any lights on it, he said he could only see an outline. He told the sergeant to look but by the time he did, it was gone.

A few minutes later, the friend noticed an "oddly bright" star in the sky which he pointed out to the sergeant. Suddenly the "star" darted across the sky to the right "at an incredible speed" until it was out of view. The sergeant told the friend not to tell anybody, he did not report the sighting to anyone except for the original witness who had confided in him about his similar experience the previous night. All of the witnesses to these two incidents work in military aviation and would be expected to be able to recognize conventional aircraft.

Similar sightings have been reported in the vicinity of military installations for many years. Presumably most sightings of this nature are never reported.
